LANI LEATHER CRAFT HOW IT ALL STARTED
Welcome to Lani Leather Craft, where our journey began with a simple yet profound idea: creating custom dog collars tailored to the unique needs of our beloved Greyhounds.
Having been involved in manufacturing beautiful leather products for over two decades, previously working in the furniture industry, producing high-end upholstery for commercial clients, our journey into handmade leather goods is a testament to our dedication to quality and excellence
This business started with my own two Greyhounds, whose slender necks and occasional bursts of curiosity required a collar that was not only gentle but also ensured utmost control. While there were options available on the market, I believed that a personalised approach was essential to guaranteeing both comfort and safety for my companions.
Thus, I embarked on the task of making collars designed specifically for their measurements and behaviours. Each collar was meticulously fashioned to ensure that the buckle and lead ring rested at the back of the neck, while the broad strap provided full support to the throat—a design that prioritised both functionality and comfort.
From this humble beginning, a business was born.
At Lani Leather Craft, we remain committed to the principles of craftsmanship, customisation, and care. Every item we make is a demonstration of our dedication to providing the highest quality products for you or your cherished companions.
Finally, you may be wondering about the logo...
This stylised drawing of a greyhound's head is based on Whisper, our blue greyhound. The business is named after our other greyhound Lani.
Leather
At Lani Leather Craft we use the best leather we can find to do the job. This usually means vegetable tanned leather, generally from Italy.
Vegetable tanning is the original and most natural method of tanning a hide. It uses tannins from the bark and leaves of trees such as oak and other high tannin products.
Sourced through merchants in the UK, we have a huge range of leather options in terms of thickness, colour and handle (the overall feel and resistance of the leather).
Popular tanneries such as Walpier and Badalassi Carlo, both based in Italy, provide ideal leather for the production of our wallets and bags. We prefer the more robust Stevedore range for our belts and love the UK produced Wickett and Craig with their beautiful bridle leather.
